People live in the Berlin Plattenbau in the residential apartments located within the large concrete panel buildings. These buildings were constructed during the post-war period to address the housing shortage in East Germany. The apartments are typically small and uniform in design, with basic amenities. Despite their initial purpose, the Plattenbau apartments are still inhabited by many people today. **

Life in a Plattenbau, or a large concrete panel building, can be characterized by a sense of uniformity and communal living. The buildings often have a high population density, with many families living in close proximity to one another. Residents may experience a lack of privacy and limited space, as well as noise from neighboring apartments. However, Plattenbau communities often have strong social ties and a sense of solidarity among residents, with shared amenities and communal spaces fostering a sense of community. **

There are several reasons why no new Plattenbau settlements are being built in Germany. Firstly, the construction of Plattenbau buildings peaked in the 1960s and 1970s, and many of these buildings have since fallen into disrepair and are associated with social problems. Additionally, there has been a shift in architectural preferences towards more aesthetically pleasing and environmentally sustainable building designs. Furthermore, there is a stigma associated with Plattenbau buildings, and many people prefer to live in more modern and spacious housing options. Finally, there are also concerns about the structural integrity and long-term maintenance of Plattenbau buildings, which has led to a decrease in their construction. **

No, the walls of Plattenbau apartments in East Germany were not made of styrofoam. Plattenbau buildings were constructed using prefabricated concrete panels, which were assembled on-site to create the walls and structure of the buildings. These buildings were a common form of housing in East Germany and other Eastern Bloc countries, and they were known for their uniform appearance and efficient construction methods. Styrofoam was not typically used as a primary building material for these types of structures. **

Your love for Plattenbau buildings may stem from a variety of reasons. These buildings, with their simple and functional design, may appeal to your appreciation for practical and efficient architecture. Additionally, their uniformity and repetition may evoke a sense of order and symmetry that you find aesthetically pleasing. The nostalgia and historical significance of these buildings as symbols of a particular era or ideology may also contribute to your affection for them. Ultimately, your perception of these buildings as "cute" may be a result of their unique charm and character, which resonates with your personal taste and sensibilities. **
